It seems my New Year’s resolution to be more active with the blog has not gone as intended. However, I am definitely going to keep this updated more often. Whether it be soap related or just my personal musings on everything I love and things I do not, you will be informed. New soaps, sales, promotions, favorite items I have found, new and old music I love, movies and television shows I have watched, foods I have eaten – you will know about it. Do not worry – not as often as a Facebook status update. This platform is more complicated than the ease of my thoughts going to thumbs and to the masses in a matter of seconds.
For those of you who follow my fan page on Facebook, you are definitely more “in the loop”. I seem to update that much more frequently. However, that will be changing. I dislike other pages that seem to bombard me with a lot of senseless information I do not need, so I can see that some of my musings may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Due to that, I would rather update it all here. That way, if you want to read it, you have to come here out of personal choice. 😉 The less to update, the better.
During the last month I have been sadly absent from my fan page as well. This has not been the only thing left by the way-side. Sometimes, life just gets in the way. And I will not lie, things have been slow going. Product was not flying off the shelves to make room for new. Therefore, I needed to take a step back, and reign in my constant need to have my hands in the pot. It saddens me some by thinking that most people are still purchasing commercial brands. So instead I like to think they have found a wonderful soap artisan close them, and have switched over to buying their products. Either way, it caused me to question my journey and become full of self-doubt.
The fan page will be shutting down. Facebook is a great social networking tool. We all know it. I was only able to enjoy my fan page for a short time before Facebook made changes to their policy. During that time, everyone got to see posts and photos, and everyone interacted frequently. I like to talk – and writing is no different. I enjoy interacting with people whom I normally would not have the opportunity to do so, some from as far off as Tokyo, Belarus, Rome, and Iceland. I like to share things about the people I love, my dog, or my rare vacation. I feel that makes me more personable to them, to you, to all my customers. So when the rules were changed wanting me to pay to promote posts, well, I guess I felt like I was talking to myself more often than not. If you do not specify when you “like” a page that you want to see it in your “newsfeed” – you will not see it. That is just a fact. I can post all day long regarding how to make this happen, but if fans are not seeing my posts to begin with, they will not see those posts either. So for a while I paid, but that can become very costly to small businesses like mine. That is why, for my purposes, it will be going away. I would like much more to concentrate on keeping everyone up to date here rather than so many other places.
So, all of that being said…. I decided to take a small break away from soaping. Considering that soaping is all I was doing every weekend for the last 2 years, I thought it was time. There were things around my house that needed some serious attention in my opinion. I filled my weekends with organizing things I had put off for what seemed like years. Needless to say, you can now see the floor in my coat closet. I trimmed some outdoor plants to remove the “winter”. A sort of haircut as my hubby would say. I filled one weekend just window shopping – which I never do. It was a beautiful weekend, and I just could not find it in me to be stuck in the house. I spring cleaned. I washed the dog. I washed the car. You know, all those things I put off because I knew they could be done another day, and I knew the house would not fall apart if I left them alone. I also watched a ton of HGTV. Every time my hubby saw it on the tube, he told me to change the channel.
I also took time to re-paint my bedroom and master bath. Pinterest is something I love, so I used my crafty skills to construct – ok, paint – a fantastic set of wall shelves for towels that I had pinned on the site. You can all follow me here if you are not already doing so. It seemed to really open the space up. I chose some lovely shades of blue-grey to paint. Maybe the grey was a reflection of how I was feeling at the time over the slowing of business, but it is definitely gorgeous. The two rooms are only divided by a pocket door, so I wanted them to flow nicely. This is a project I have wanted to tackle every since my West Palm Beach trip, but never made the time. I wanted a nice spa-like feel when I walk into those rooms. I got it. All the tile in my bathroom is white, and there is a large window above the garden tub, so I put the darker shade of paint on the walls making the white really pop. I replaced all the towels to plain white, added some white silk orchids, and changed out the faucet. In the bedroom, I added sheer white curtains over the slider, and I changed out all the linens for white 500 thread-count or higher. Believe me, once you up your thread-count, you will never go back! Anyway, I am super pleased with the outcome. Now peacefulness floods my mind when I walk into it. Mission accomplished!
Finally, before I fell off the grid, I did make more soap, wedding favors, bridal shower favors, shaving bars, and shea butter bars. All of these minus the favors are still available on my Etsy store and on sale! So be sure you check them out and get some before your favorites are gone. I do have plans to pick the stick blender back up and whip up some more beautiful soap. So do not fear! I will just have to find the room. Making soap is something I love to do, and well, it is my passion. I cannot stop now, because as you know, that would just be crazy talk.
Much love to you all!
